A few of the treasures discovered in my feed reader this week:
- How to Turn a Lousy Blog Headline into a Great One from Tristan Higbee shows how a bland blog post title evolved into an interesting – and very clickable – headline. It’s a good read for anyone who needs help crafting compelling titles.
- Master this Skill Before Setting New Writing Goals from Suzannah at Write it Sideways is a reminder that waiting for inspiration to strike won’t get you any closer to your writing (or blogging) goals. You need to start with the basics – like a schedule.
- How Expensive PPC Advertising May Payout For Keyword Testing – I don’t know the first thing about PPC, but this post at Traffic Generation Cafe offers some interesting insights into the difference between search numbers and actual conversions.
- Regina Smola of WPSecurityLock.com details the reasons why you should never use those “one-click install” scripts for WordPress. I know it’s easier, but read WordPress Security Risks Using Auto Installers Like Fantatisco and you’ll never do it again. Besides, even the manual install is a piece of cake. Just follow the directions.

After nearly three years of working on my small business while still holding down a demanding day job, I was finally able to make the move to Self-Employment.
Thanks for the inclusion, Cindy – much appreciated!
Ana
Thanks for the mention, Cindy! I’m glad you liked that post
And thanks for pointing me in the direction of those other posts. I’m off to read them now.
Oh, and I just added your blog to keywordluv.com. Traffic to the site is still pretty low, but it’ll gradually increase.
A very cool list will checkout; the auto installer issue seems a bit worrying as my site was made that way :S
I have lots of blogs that were installed that way, too. I compensate (I hope) with really strong passwords.
Hi Cindy,
Love the links above, i have known Anna, and Tristan, but i only have read Tristan’s link, will check Anna and wpsecuritylock, too..
Honestly i don’t use fantastico to install wordpress, my reason is, the easy to guess database table prefix, like wrdp_ something.
I prefer to install manually.
Thanks for sharing the valuable links.
Kind regards,
Kimi.
Hi Kimi,
Thanks for stopping by. I met Regina Smola of WP Security Lock at a conference last summer. She is a wealth of information about all things WordPress, and she’s always first to sound the warning about hosting problems (GoDaddy!) and other dangers. I highly recommend getting on her list.
I just found Tristan’s and Ana’s blogs and am having a great time reading through their older posts. Both are a great resource and I look forward to getting to know both of them better in the future.
It was nice “meeting” you, and I hope you’ll stop by often!
Cindy
