I don’t know if it’s a recent trend, but I seem to be seeing a lot of blogs without dates on the posts. Bloggers do this largely because they don’t want evergreen posts to be seen as outdated just because they were written more than a couple of months ago. That’s fine. I get it.
But it still irritates the crap out of me.
Sometimes we need to know if a post is potentially out of date. What if it’s a tech post about how to do some cool new thing with your WordPress install? What if it’s important information about how to make your website more secure? What if it’s a coupon code for a hot product you’ve been dying to try? Wouldn’t it be nice to know if those posts are outdated?
Sometimes you can tell by reading the comments. Bloggers rarely remove the date from the comments. Sometimes there are no comments, though, so we’re left clueless as to the validity of the post.
I can’t be the only one who gets annoyed with the no-date policy, can I?

You’re not alone, Cindy. I completely agree – and move on if I can’t find a date. So it backfires. I can’t see where hiding something from the reader can ever be a good thing. It doesn’t gain my trust anyway.
p.s. Love your Aztec caption!

I had considered doing this myself, for one of my less-loved blogs. I have been running across this more and more, though – and it does drive me crazy! And I, too, look at the comments (if there are any) to find the dates. So I’ve pretty much decided not to do it.

Okay, that’s three against. Maybe we can start a trend!
